Homewood
Studios in North Minneapolis is an artists’ workspace and
small community gallery/meeting space designed for local artists and
community members in the belief that the visible presence of working
artists in a neighborhood contributes to the vitality, self-image,
and connectedness of that community.
(from the old highland web designer ... I walked in
one day to the Homewood Studios because the doors were open on a
sunny Saturday afternoon. The owners were so friendly
and open to show me the gallery, the class schedules, and other
areas of the studios. It made me feel instantly part of the
Homewood Studios group. Thank you for being so kind!) |

The Lundstrum Center
for the Performing Arts |
(612)521-2600 |
|
The
Lundstrum Center mission is to cultivate and nurture a
love and knowledge of the performing arts. We train the aspiring
artist with a three fold emphasis: dance, voice and drama. Continuing
in the tradition of the founder, Dorothy Lundstrum, our approach is
grounded in the principle that true beauty is a reflection of God
and begins within. For those who are not professionally inclined, we
utilize the performing arts as a vehicle to increase self-esteem,
creativity, fitness, mental health, motor skills, and coordination.
We do this in a fun
affirming atmosphere. Our classes are open to
students
of all backgrounds to ensure enrichment to our surrounding
communities. Work study and grants are available.
The Lundstrum Center for the Performing Arts
is a Minnesota non-profit 501(c)3 corporation offering training in
dance, voice, and drama for the experienced performer as well as the
absolute beginner. All classes are taught by professional dancers,
singers, or actors. |

Nothing
could be more
offbeat than six women with limited
time and resources founding a gallery in North Minneapolis…but
that’s precisely what we’re doing! Offbeat collaborative aims to
expand the thriving Twin Cities art community by opening a venue for
neighborhood residents and Twin Cities art lovers to enjoy. With a
deep commitment to benefiting the local artist, Offbeat Gallery asks
only a small submission fee of ten dollars for consideration of work
in upcoming shows and an additional fifteen if accepted. The gallery
also wants the artists to reap the majority of the monetary reward,
80% of work sold at the gallery goes to the artist. As artists earn
a relatively high percentage for artwork sold, they can fairly price
their work, making art more affordable to the community. Artist
involvement through direct participation in the exhibition and
opening is essential to the vision and success of the gallery. In
tandem with the revitalization efforts on Glenwood Avenue North,
Offbeat is a new cultural resource in Minneapolis’ developing
Harrison neighborhood. Along with the gallery, Offbeat looks forward
to offering art education to residents and providing additional
opportunities for private use of gallery space to display art, play
music or read current work. As artists and residents of the Harrison
neighborhood, the Offbeat collaborative will change the gallery
displays monthly to maintain a vibrant place to see free art.
